Today we continue on Sylvia van Bruggen’s dream path. She is the inspiration behind Playful Soulwork. Her mission is to assist in bringing out the playful side in all of us, by dabbling in art, creativity and Ego Busting sessions. She also has her own Tarot Deck and writes poems and short stories. Sylvia wrote a special story for me entitled The Bright Pink Backpack. A gift I will always remember.
In her last 2 dreams, The Colorful Scarf and A Dream in a Dream: Shimmering Butterfly Glasses Sylvia is certainly coming to terms with the joy of creating her life and the ego which tries to sabotage. She states:
I keep getting these ego messages that my quest is just stupid and I need to start behaving myself, time to get that out of my life!
Over the winter, Sylvia has had many breakthroughs. What I love about her dreams, is they too tell a story. What I see is Sylvia truly paying attention to the messages which allow her to progress and move to the next step into her amazing life’s journey. She accepts, and embraces more and more the things which make her truly authentic, loving and compassionate. This awareness has trickled into her dreams and is filling her emotional bank account with love.
The Dreams
Part 1, dreamed a couple of months ago.
I dreamed I was in a world with a permanent lottery kind of thing, where i lived in an apartment building.
In the hallway of the building stood a table with advanced savings jars for every inhabitant. They had meters for everything you saved up for: walls, windows, roof etc. We were all saving to get our own homes.
I didn’t care much, just paid the government set minimum. So mine was very empty compared to the others.
We all went to a lavish party with famous singers I didn’t know. I met a man I frequently meet in dreams and we danced. We also talked about something but I don’t know what.
Then I went home and found my jar was the fullest in the building (they were supposedly tamper proof). I cried as I didn’t want to leave. Woke up with tears rolling down my cheeks.
Part 2 –
I stood in the hallway of the apartment building, and looked at all the savings jars, then I noticed mine was gone! I laughed so much, I really didn’t care that mine was stolen.
The Interpretation
Sylvia, the first dream reminds me of your Butterfly Glasses dream. In which you are living lavishly. The permanent lottery seems to represent that side of us which “hopes for more”. The part of you which relies on “fate” and divine intervention. Letting go and letting God.
I feel the contributions to the jars significant as you seem to be giving what you can, when you can, without depleting or comparing yourself to what other’s are giving or doing. This reminds me of Steven Covey’s theory of the emotional bank account. The second dream seems to deal with this too. Sometimes we let too many people take withdrawals from that account which deplete us.. so now when self-love comes along we accumulate good savings in that emotional bank account.. We are not depleted is something happens to withdraw anything from us.
Steven Covey describes this in his book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
The emotional units that Covey speaks of are centered around trust. When we make emotional deposits into someone’s bank account, their fondness, trust, and confidence in us grows. And as a result our relationship develops and grows. If we can keep a positive reserve in our relationships, by making regular deposits, there will be greater tolerance for our mistakes and we’ll enjoy open communication with that person. On the contrary, when we make withdrawals and our balance becomes low or even overdrawn, bitterness, mistrust and discord develops. If we are to salvage the relationship, we must make a conscious effort to make regular deposits. (source: lifetrainingonline.com)
In the end, your jar is full, and yes you must leave. The emotional tears suggest you are not willing to let go of what you have accomplished so far. If you really look back on all the dreams you shared with me this past year Sylvia, you can most definitely use them to write a story. (just an idea)
In the second dream you do not care that someone stole your jar, because, in fact, you trust your OWN emotional bank account right inside of you. There is now enough to go around without depleting yourself. Just keep on making those “good” deposits, and you will feel uplifted and free.

I used to remember my dreams that vividly….I don’t anymore, sometimes, not at all….

If you do want to remember them, start telling yourself before bed. Then keep a pen and paper near and as soon as you wake up, write the dream down.
