Don’t seek happiness…

Awakening to Your Life's Purpose

“A man should look for what is, and not what he thinks should  be.”  ~Albert Einstein

I quoted Albert Einstein, because Mr Tolle uses his quotes many times throughout this book. I felt the one above to resonate with me as I write this.   As I finished making my New Moon wishes this evening.. it turned into night.. I’ve been reading this orange book most of the day, and it is really making me think less, and just be!  Funny I say this, however,  if you haven’t read the book you must to really understand what I just said.  Maybe you do because you are already mindfull and just “are” 🙂

I didn’t come here to summerize Mr. Tolle’s book, although I may refer to it again this week.  I came here to write a passage which really caught my attention and I wanted too see what it brings up in YOU.

“Don’t seek happiness. If you seek it, you won’t find it, because seeking is the antithesis of happiness. Happiness is ever elusive, but freedom from unhappiness is attainable now, by facing “what is” rather than making up stories about it. Unhappiness covers up your natural state of well-being and inner peace, the source of true happiness.” p. 96

What comes up when you read this?  Go beyond thought and write down in the comment section any emotions, feelings or insights that arise.  I would appreciate this discussion very much.

Love and light

Kim

  1. Kim, it makes me think of other mindfulness teachers that I follow (Jon Kabat-Zinn, for one). Our NATURAL state is happiness. If we are still and let our natural self float up, we can’t help but BE happy. We all are happy, we just don’t know it because we bury our happiness under so much crap!

  2. Thats it!! Jennifer. This does remind me of what you have been saying these past few weeks when referring to Jon Kabat-Zinn, which is another book I must get my hands on 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to comment your insight.

  3. Ah the elusive happiness yes!! When we focus on what we do not have be enhance it and when we focus on what is we work on what that is and become better for it this is true happiness as we become real with ourselves the good the bad and the ugly and work through to be and become better and learn and grow and change into a better person and thus become happy within ourselves as out true selves

    Great post hanks for sharing!

Perhaps may need to look into reading the Tole book as well!

  4. Gratitude is the answer. Happiness is not something that can be found outside of us. It is within us and easily felt in gratitude acknowledged & expressed in the moment.

    Great, thought provoking post Kim!

  6. Yes! Gratitude. Wake up and tell yourself you intend to live your life today as if you were happy and full of energy and you open yourself up to receiving just that Kim which reinforces those feelings. Concentrating on what you are grateful for will keep you in a positive state of mind.
