Self is the only prison that can ever bind the soul. ~Henry Van Dyke, The Prison and the Angel
Today’s dream is from a regular client of mine. She most graciously allowed me to post her dream, once again, however, she wishes to remain anonymous. I love returning clients because I can see how they spiritually grow since the last time we spoke. If one follows the interpretation of their dream when one resonates with it, and takes it to heart, life can take amazing turns: recurring dreams no longer recur, and magic happens!
To give you context, please refer to anon’s post Crossing Paths, to see how this all started. There are some links to what is happening in this dream. Also note, she told me she is not happy in her job, and I see this, now that she told me, reflected here.
The Dream
This dream seemed very long. I was with my daughter and my parents, and possibly my sister. I don’t believe my husband was there, but I could be wrong.
I know we were all in England on vacation. We were walking around, and I told my mother that although we just got to England, I remembered absolutely nothing about the flight itself (FYI, I hate flying). Suddenly, we were just there.
Anyway, we were sight-seeing and suddenly we were below ground – like we were taking the subway and people were living down there – it was like a whole different world – dark and dirty and depressing.
Suddenly, we were above ground again looking at a castle near the ocean. I remember asking when we would see the ocean – it must be near here – and suddenly it was right there. We were a fair distance from the ocean – I was right next to my daughter, and my parents were closer to the shore. Suddenly, we saw this huge tidal wave coming at us – I yelled a warning to my parents and told my daughter to hang on to me and the nearest structure. I told her the exact moment to close her eyes and hold her breath and then the wave crashed over us (I was hugging her). I remember worrying about my parents, but my top priority was protecting my daughter. Another wave crashed over us, then it stopped. I found my parents, and for some reason we felt we had to escape – we were probably worried about it happening again.
We eventually found sanctuary in a community that was very odd – it was cut off from the rest of society somehow and reminded me of an Amish-type community. There were a ton of animals around, and I was afraid that I would witness them being butchered (presumably, they raised them for food, among other purposes). Although they took us in, we eventually realized that there was something very sinister about the community, and we planned our escape. I am not sure what exactly we were afraid of, but it was very palpable. Eventually, we escaped to a beach. Before we left to go home, I had to say good-bye to a guy I must have met in the community. He gave me a heart-shaped rock, and I gave him one. That was the end of the dream.
The Interpretation
Note that your daughter in this dream clearly represents your inner child, and your parents represent your “parental instincts of love and protection”, also the inner voice which sometimes can speak about morality and values. Your parents in this dream, though, seem to be there as a reminder that you are your own person as they seem somewhat detached (which makes sense now that you say your parents are separated).
–
England (your past)
You are sight-seeing in England. Since you have a fear of flying it makes sense you skipped this part (your subconscious doesn’t want to reflect fear in this dream). The sight-seeing (visiting) represents the exploration of self. Since England is a place you always wanted to visit this makes total sense.
You go below to a dark place where things are ugly and dirty. Like ugly damp basements (the basement of our soul) This, seems to represent either unexplored old issues OR issues (which I think makes more sense) that you have dealt with in the past and you are re-visiting. My intuition states that you have revisited these old hurts recently (also.. we did this in the last dream you shared). This world is different from the world you live in now.. It feels like today you are living a WHOLE NEW LIFE!
Castle (your present)
You are now above ground near a Castle. This seems to me like this part of your dream represents your present situation. The ocean is the calm before the storm, a place of tranquility and vastness. You sense this now. You wanted to see how far you have come into your life… the ocean mirrors your emotions… In the dream, your parents are at a distance near the shore. This part of you (protection and love) represents the detachment you have made from “needing” your parents to depending on yourself. I think I may be taking a leap here, however, do you feel more “independant lately?” and ready to make changes?
The Shore
The shore often represents the point where the conscious meets with the unconscious… Your parents presence there seems to mean you have come to a place of discomfort and insecurity to a place of comfort and you know the endless possibilities your life can behold.
Tidal Wave
More good news! There you are protecting your daughter, your bright and shiny inner child, from the big huge Tidal Wave!! You are not worried about your parents anymore and you can now rely and trust yourself completely… look at you go you brave child!!! Loving yourself in a big HUGE HUG, and keeping the tidal wave from getting to you! You can now live the life of your dreams because you now can depend on and trust yourself. Way to go! You even told her the exact time to “close her eyes and hold her breath” so she too can protect herself from things she is not ready yet to see, and also be ready. I really love this part. This says to me: You can face obstacles and let yourself know when its safe to come out.
Escape (notice the escape theme comes twice in this dream)
You feel in your dream the need to escape the danger, knowing this would probably happen again.. if you stuck around – this is a good omen of good health and prosperity – because again, you instinctively listen to your inner self.. this is what is coming to me.
Sanctuary (now this place brings to mind the cult like church you once described)
Odd community: Cut off from the rest of the world (your place of work perhaps?)
Escape is present here too! I feel you are present and finally forgiving of this time in your life, or will be very soon.. Moving on is the theme here!
The beach where you end up usually represents, like the shore (above) a place of transition from the physical and spiritual rhelm. I feel much healing going on with you and in your life… MAJOR changes ahead.
Addendum: For some reason I overlooked the last part of Anon’s dream. The boy giving her the heart-shaped rock! How I missed that is beyond me. However, I went to dreammoods.com (a reference place for me) and they state:
Rocks
To see a rock in your dream symbolizes strength, permanence, stability and integrity, as conveyed in the common phrase “as solid as a rock”. The dream may also indicate that you are making a commitment to a relationship or that you are contemplating some changes in your life that will lay the groundwork for a more solid foundation.
I totally agree with this statement, and since the boy gave Anon a heart-shaped rock, I will add that this commitment to something is a loving one, and it may be the commitment to SELF!!!
And so she said:
All I can say is “wow!” Thanks!
